PUPILS from Hambridge Primary School raised an impressive £715 for the British Red Cross Typhoon Haiyan Appeal through sponsored activities and a raffle, to help people in dire need in the Philippines.
The pupils and teachers took part in a full day of activities. Some took part in non-stop “sponsored exercise” on an exercise bike and a running machine, while others were sponsored to chant their times tables.
Red Cross community legacy manager, Paul Morgan, said: “The generosity of the pupils, teachers and parents was hugely impressive and I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part in all these great events.
“Having spoken at a whole school assembly the day before the activities, I was well aware of the concern the pupils and teachers had for the people in the Philippines – it has been really touching.”
The British Red Cross has 18 members of staff in the Philippines, including teams of specialists in logistics, shelter and sanitation.
The Red Cross Red Crescent Movement has also sent aid workers with expertise in healthcare and emergency shelter, and is helping thousands of people search for missing loved ones.
