AN EXCITING new street dance class means adults and children in Porlock can dance their way into the New Year.

It is part of a new community fitness initiative, organised by 1610.

Former Royal Ballet Star Duncan Hume, is setting up a new after school dance club for pupils at St Dubricus School.

They will be able to learn a variety of free style moves to urban dance tracks.

Duncan is already a big hit in other parts of West Somerset.

He teaches dance classes at Dulverton Primary School and has his own Jitterbugs class at the West Somerset Sports and Leisure Centre in Minehead.

Duncan said: “The classes are aimed at children learning new dance movies while having fun with their friends.

“They can develop greater spatial awareness, confidence as well as the art of performance.

“The important thing is that they are getting fit and learning new skills while having fun all at the same time. The Junior Dance Club starts on Wednesday January 15 from 3.30-4.30pm for children in school years 1-4.

A new Dance Fitness class for adults starts the same day from 6-7pm.

The dance-based exercises will help strengthen muscles, promote greater body awareness and confidence.

The first adult dance class is free, contact Suzanne Richards on 01643-708815 for a voucher.
