A SEDGEMOOR veterinary hospital has been praised for helping injured wildlife over Christmas.
On the evening of Christmas Day, a report came into Secret World Wildlife Rescue that a badger had been hit by a car in Street and was struggling to get away.
Luckily, a member of the public stayed with it until one of the charity’s response drivers collected it and took it to the Quantock Veterinary Hospital in Bristol Road, Bridgwater.
Secret World founder Pauline Kidner said: “Despite it nearly being midnight the vet was on hand to assess the badger before it came to Secret World.
“The badger’s now receiving supportive care and hopefully will return home when it’s better.”
Another Secret World response driver was called out on Boxing Day to a swan which had nose-dived on to a road.
Pauline said: “We think the swan just has bruising and should be able to return to the lake near the road where he was found.
“I’m so proud of our staff and volunteers who, no matter what time of day or night, are prepared to turn out and save wildlife.
“I’d also like to praise the Quantock Veterinary Hospital – they’re always there when we need them.”
