A NEWSAGENT in Ilminster said thank-you for support received after an armed robbery at the store.

At around 7am on December 23, 2012, a masked man went into the shop in East Street and threatened staff with what police described as a “blade instrument” before making off with a quantity of cash.

Though the culprit had yet to be caught, store manager Jane Davies thanked the police for their support.

“We've had wonderful support from the police and PCSOs since it happened,” she said.

“I'd like to thank them and everyone else who has supported us.”

SOUTH Somerset was plunged under a layer of snow towards the end of January.

Hundreds of students and schoolchildren across the Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne area enjoyed time off school and it also meant people had to take an impromptu day off of work, either unable to travel or to look after their children.

Members of Chard Town Council drove over to Yeovil to pick up pallets of grit and it was just in the nick of time.

Cllr Jill Shortland, who represents Chard on Somerset County Council, praised workmen who helped to keep the town centre as safe as possible.
