It seems pointless to me to have a Survey, when as with most Surveys from SCC on anything from Highway issues to Potholes, to our views on EDF, or the Flooding issues, you only want Answers to Questions you like to be answered.
The Points I would like to raise on Bus Travel, in and around the Bridgwater Town and surrounding District.

1. Why is the cost of Bus travel not subsidised to a greater extent, to enable more of the Public to use the Service, not just Students and the Over 65's.

2. There are to many empty buses, running almost empty, quite often two or three following each other......
3. There should be a 3 Tier cost structure, regarding where you start and end your journey, whether it be a hop on hop off Town Service, or a inter village/ Bridgwater Service.
Obviously priced accordingly, as to the journey length. But as it is most people find the cost of Bus Usage outside of affordability, so hence use their own transport. If the County Council are serious in their determination to reduce "Own CarTraffic Useage". They must devise a scheme that is Workable.!!
4. All their stratagems seem unworkable, as they refuse to listen to residents veiws, even when they ask for imput.

I have made many sensible suggestions over the years, as a Councillor in SDC and BTC over an 8 year period, none put in place, Why !!! Things like cycle routes on the Pavements in Monmouth St. Both sides and up over Broad Way to North St.
Likewise, a Parralel cycle Bridge over Westonzoyland Rd to allow cyclist to cycle into Town from the 4 housing Estates in the Bower Area of Bridgwater.
The upgrading of Bower Lane and Dunwear Lane to link into Colley Lane, and the New Hospital on Bower Lane.
There seems to be little appetite from SCC to spend money to upgrade our Highway infrastructure in Bridgwater, despite the soon to be Hinkley C Traffic, on our roads, But there has been a lot more of the Total Counties Highway Provision spent on New roads in Taunton........I have asked why, many a time, but got fobbed off !!!
Therefore, my faith in this consultation, being more than the normal tick box exercise, to make us think they are actually interested in improving our lot.

Still we have webber bus coming down somerville with a handfull of o.a.p`s on it,?
how much will this cost the tax payer to fund this?
Never see you on your bike?
Can`t afford to use the bus with a family, what a joke.
i see the dd buses in white with little or nobody on them.total madness.
the list goes on but am i heard..... no.
What this town needs is a oap`s mini bus service, then cutting down the big and smelly busses, and the cost to us all.

Mr GOF, are you responding to my posts directly, when you say that you never see me on a Bus !!. If you bothered to read what I posted, I sometimes use the Bus service to Taunton, or back if I need to......
I own and drive a vehicle or more, which is my choice to do !! With my Tax Paid monies left at the end of the week under my self employed Status.
It is up to me wether I use the Local bus services, because if am overtaxed on Fuel Duty, and the Road Fund Duty, I choose to drive my own vehicle, at my own discretion. Because I enjoy the freedom to do so, plus, it's very difficult to get to my Appts on Public Transport, with two Heavy Sample Cases full of Wine. Up to 6 Appts a day three days or more a week,
I am more concerned that the Extortionate Costs that are subsidising an inefficient bus service, for those who need to use it. When it costs over £1.75 each way to travel into Town, it's a joke!!!!!
Why should I get on my Bike, to satisfy some Number crunchers @ SCC who have a £4 Million budget to squander on Cycle routes that go no where, just look at what Bristol wasted on their £16 million for Transam Cycle Routes.
We have more cyclist in Bridgwater cycling to and from work, than any of our Towns in the District ,including the Car Lovers in Taunton.
I ride my bike , when I want to, not when some mammy pamby do Gooders say's I must.
When they SCC instigate some of the Cycle routes around Bridgwater, that I have /uggested over many years, I might start using them, ie; along Broadway and up over to North St. Along Monmouth St, dual Carriage Way , wide pavements ideal for Cycle routes, No far too simple, does'nt cost enough, cause enough disruption to motorist. Take the Cranleigh Grd's cycle route against traffic, No One Uses ,!!
SCC, listen to us the Residents, you should be engaging, not dismissing us..
You really are a Joke !!!!
