MAGNA’S annual Christmas competition saw 13 sheltered and extra care housing schemes across West Somerset battle it out to be voted the best.

The categories of best decorated community room, home-made Christmas cake, home-made Christmas table decoration and home-made Christmas card were fiercely contested.

Ingrams Meadow, in Watchet, won the Gold Award and a £50 high street voucher for the best decorated community room.

Neil Bliss, Magna’s community involvement officer, organised the competition and drives the judges round the schemes.

He said: “Last year we awarded first, second and third prizes but the judges had such a tricky job picking the best entries for the best decorated communal room they changed the categories.

“This year we have bronze, silver and gold winners, meaning the judges can award more winners.”

Healeys, at Porlock, and Silvermead, at Alcombe, won the silver Award and £30.

Luttrell Gardens, Minehead, Maglands Road, Watchet, and Fishers Mead, Dulverton, won the bronze award and £20.

Sandra Campbell, from Dean Close, in Stogumber, won the best table decoration; Jayne Smith, from St Audries Close, in Stogursey, won the best table decoration; and Cynthia Hancock, of Willow Grove, in Washford, won the best Christmas card.

Magna judge and housing officer Amanda Shirani added: “Everyone worked really hard to put on a great show and it has been incredibly hard to judge the winners.

“I was very proud to be one of the three judges and I’d like to thank all the schemes for their Christmas efforts.”
