THE Mayor of Chard unveiled a wall hanging made by Combe St Nicholas Primary School’s sewing club when she opened their Victorian Christmas Fayre.

Cllr Jenny Kenton was helped along by some of the children who had been involved in making it.

Shortlisted designs submitted by pupils throughout the school were put together by parent Serena Cambridge and a sewing club was founded to create the wall hanging to brighten up a corner of the school hall.

Lesley Katner from the school said: “We were very lucky that a member of the local community, Nanette Wale, was also keen to be involved, and she kindly coordinated the whole enterprise, teaching the children some useful skills with a sewing machine in the process.

“The wall hanging incorporates elements of our local surroundings in addition to some more imaginative aspects, and the names of all children involved have been embroidered on to leaves which surround the hanging.”
