CHILDREN from Avishayes School, in Chard, will be safer on school trips and outings thanks to a opticians' in the town.

Staff from Specsavers visited the school during Road Safety Week in November to give high visibility vests, ensuring pupils are seen by road users outside of the school grounds.

Avishayes head teacher Nic Gordon said: “Our children love going on school trips in Chard and the surrounding countryside which means we are often crossing some very busy roads.

“The high visibility vests will ensure the children will be even brighter than usual.”

Chard branch store director Stephen Watson said: “It was fantastic to meet all the kids, especially as it’s vital to learn how important it is to be visible on the roads from a young age.”
