MORE than £2,000 was raised last week for a charity that helps equip the Beacon Centre cancer unit at Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital.

Among the donations to the County Gazette-backed Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (SURE) were £45 from Wellington School Somerset Lodge from am alms; £50 from the Clovermarle Stroke Club, Taunton, in lieu of sending Christmas cards; £30 from Monument Proshare Social Club, Bradford on Tone; and £200 from Dunster Beach Holidays from a fun day.

There was also £1,000 from Swallowfield, Wellington, following an employee sale; £25 from Mr and Mrs Ivor Roberts, of Bradford-on-Tone; £105 from the Senior Citizens Club, at Holcombe; £172 from the Aqua Aerobics group in Wellington following a raffle, as well as £75 in 5p coins.

Other 5p collections totalled £8.95 from Andrew and Tina Potter and their family and friends; £50 from the Moose Hall Ladies Circle, Taunton; and £81.50 from the Thursday Fellowship, Wellington Baptist Church.

Donations from collection pots were £19.60 from Sainsbury's petrol station, Hankridge; £3.04 from the Post Office, Staplegrove; £4.10 from the Premier Garage, Cross Keys; £5.35 from Staplegrove Hairdressers; £7.54 from Honey's Hairdressers, Galmington; £21.22 from Wyvale Garden Centre; and £32.24 from the One Stop Shop in Galmington.

A further £188.60 was collected from the Beacon Centre, including £180 in 5ps.

The total collected since the Gazette supported SURE now stands at £384,408.76.
