SHOPPERS and traders helped bring a buzz to Burnham as late-night Christmas shopping and festive entertainment attracted the crowds.

Around 60 businesses across Burnham town centre backed the event and shoppers were able to enjoy festive music from Curtain Call and the Mudlarks Community Choir in Victoria Street and High Street.

Father Christmas also dropped by at the event with gifts, courtesy of Burnham Lions, and many of the shops provided mulled wine and other festive treats to entice shoppers in.

The town’s chamber of trade, who organised the evening to help independent traders, said the event proved to be a huge hit.

Beverley Milner Simonds said: “We just want to say a big thank you to those who have shopped locally and hopefully we have introduced a few new regular shoppers to our streets and hopefully they will continue to be delighted with trade in the tonw into the New Year.

“There is a lot of positivity in the town and we look forward to a good Christmas trading period.

“We were really pleased to have so many traders involved with the late night shopping alongside the regular cafes and bars that were open – there was a really nice atmosphere and buzz.”

The chamber of trade say despite talk of a recession, Burnham seems to be bucking the trend and boasts another two additions to its shopping scene, With Love on Cross Street, and Labels for Less in Victoria Court, They said plans on how to run ‘bigger and better’ events in the New Year and next Christmas are taking place in a bid to further enhance the profile of Burnham town centre.
