THE BBC’S Countryfile team paid a festive visit to a Christmas tree farm in Somerset.

Secret Valley at Cobbs Cross Farm, Enmore, had a call from the show’s researcher and producer asking if they could film at the farm as part of a Christmas special.

Farmer John Hardwick showed them around before a filming date was set and last week the business hosted the TV crew.

Joint owner Jan Hardwick said: “Tom Heap, the presenter, thought Secret Valley was very diverse and that we were very entrepreneurial.

“The producer was also very impressed that as well as all the other services we offer, we also maintain a working farm with chickens and beef cattle.

"They said it was unusual to have all those different things going on in one place.”

Mr Heap was shown how to use a tree-cutting machine and then learnt how to operate the netting machine.

The TV crew then visited Secret Valley’s own vineyard, where John Hardwick explained the work involved in growing grapes.

Secret Valley also boasts a ‘glamping’ campsite with wigwams, yurts and even a reindeer lodge.

Secret Valley’s Christmas Tree Barn is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

This Saturday and Sunday and December 14 and 15 from 2pm to 4pm there are free trailer rides for children.

Donations to St Margaret’s Hospice will be appreciated.
