Taunton library stone dragon damaged

This is The West Country: Taunton library stone dragon damaged Taunton library stone dragon damaged

VANDALS have damaged a stone carving of a dragon outside Taunton library.

The dragon, widely recognised as the county’s symbol, has had part of its face and right ear knocked off.

Grace Rayson, pictured, who works at the Taunton Information Centre, said she was disappointed to see the dragon had been damaged.

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “The dragon on the front of Taunton Library was vandalised and unfortunately the dragon was broken into several pieces.

“The library service staff and Taunton Library users are upset this has happened as the dragon is a real feature on the front of the building.

“The police are currently looking at CCTV footage to hopefully identify the individuals who vandalised the dragon.”

Library staff been able to retrieve the sections of broken dragon and Somerset Library Service has approached the artist who originally sculpted the dragon to see if it is repairable.

At this stage, it is not known whether repairs can be made or what the cost involved would be.

Such shameless acts of wanton vandalism to the library is to be truly deplored; it is however not enough to get angry at those councillors whom vote for the cuts that are destroying our public services; we have to get organised!

We need ant-cuts candidates to stand against all the three main cuts parties at future by-elections and local elections when they next occur.

Remember: If we do not stand an anti-cuts candidate, then a cuts party candidate will 'win' by default.

You mean you don't agree that ANY AND EVERY act of wanton vandalism to our libraries and public services should be deplored and opposed!

Irrespective of whether it's the damage to a sculpted dragon or the systematic cuts and closures being rained down by councillors from all four Cuts Parties whom repeatedly lie to us all, when they claim they have no choice, but to vote for cuts, closures and privatisations?

Councillors from all of the three main Cuts Parties (four if you include UKIP) whom vote for cuts and closures to public services, are also purposeful vandals; even repeat offenders; are they not?
