Tributes paid to Taunton man Mike Perry after body found in park

STAPLEGROVE Football Club have postponed their match against Glastonbury tonight after the news of Mike's death.
Secretary Nick Stilton said the club has also called off their fixtures this weekend
He added: “The players are totally cut up so there is no way we can play football, they would not be in the right frame of mind and that is the last thing in our minds at the moment.
“A lot of players have been with Mike since they were a young age and he had some close friends at the club."
THE sporting community at Staplegrove say they have been left numb by the news of Mike Perry’s death.
Mike was an attacking midfielder and played for Staplegrove Football Club since he was a youngster, working with way through the sides and becoming a regular in their first team this season.
His coach Peter Horton said: “Mike was a very committed player, hard working and a good honest footballer.
“He thoroughly enjoyed his football and was a very well respected member of the team.”
Mike also played cricket at Bishops Hull and Simon Cutler, secretary of Staplegrove Sports Club, said: “Mike was a talented footballer and cricketer who played with a rare intensity and always finished games with a smile on his face.”
DOZENS of bouquets of flowers have been laid in memory of Mike with candles and heartfelt messages, close to where he was found on Sunday evening.
IN the space of just one hour, nearly 1,500 people have joined a memorial Facebook group called RIP Mike Perry.
STAFF at Richard Huish College say they have been left deeply saddened by the news of Mike Perry's death.
They told the County Gazette a few moments ago: "It was just devastating when we heard the news – it hit us like a tonne of bricks.
“Mike was really well liked by all the staff and students around him and he was one of the lads, almost a bit of a loveable rogue."
“I was always really respectful with the staff and that is probably why it has hit the teachers particularly hard and they have been left very sad.
“He had a good sense of humour and didn't take things too seriously but just enjoyed life and was really nice with people."
A FACEBOOK group has been set up to remember Mike Perry.
The group, called RIP Mike Perry, which was launched this afternoon, has already attracted hundreds of people.
FLOWERS and a candle have been lit by the gates of Mambo in North Street, Taunton.
Mike, 21, worked as a barman and assistant manager, and his colleagues and family mourned his death at the venue this afternoon.
Manager Rob MacDonald told the County Gazette that Mike was a cherished member of the team, dedicated and reliable.
He added: "This has hit the team at Mambo hard, and we appreciate how well the local community pulled together so quickly to help us search for him and the support that has been given over facebook.
"Mike was a very popular young man, and touched so many people’s hearts in many different ways."

A LARGE group of people have been at the scene where Mike was found last night.
Bouquets of flowers have also been laid.
MIKE was a former student at Richard Huish College.
The college are expected to release a tribute of their memories during his time at Huish later on.

POLICE say a post mortem will be carried out and then the cause of Mike's death will be handed over to the coroners who are expected to open and adjourn the case.
CLOSE friends and colleagues of Mike are expected to lay flowers and tributes at the scene where he was found later on today.

MIKE worked at Mambo in North Street, Taunton, and his colleagues paid tribute to him this morning.
They said: "We cant even put into words how devastated we are at the loss of Mike Perry.
"He was truly a special person and loved by all of us at Mambo.
"Our hearts go out to all of Mike's family and friends and a big thank you to all the people of Taunton who pulled together to help us yesterday.
"RIP Mike. You will never be forgotten xxx"
A YOUNG man from Taunton was found dead last night after going missing from a night out with friends.
Mike Perry has been named locally as the man who went missing after he left his friends at Mambo in Taunton at around 4.30am heading towards the Goodland Gardens area.
A search party of family and friends met at French Weir Park at 9.30pm last night and his body was found close to a stream in Goodland Gardens.
Police told the County Gazette this morning that the incident is not beleived to be suspicious and they are currently treating it as unexplained.
