STAFF from Eastleigh Care Home in Minehead are celebrating after receiving a national award recognising the Gold Standard of care they provide for their residents.

The care home received Pass status as part of the Gold Standards Framework in Care Homes Quality Hallmark Awards.

They join more than 400 homes across the country which are providing their residents with the compassionate care they deserve as they approach the end of their lives.

Eastleigh staff achieved this by improving collaboration with the local GPs and other relevant professionals, reducing inappropriate hospital admissions and increasing chances of residents dying in their preferred place of care.

Jennifer Hodges, manager of Eastleigh Care Home, said: “We are delighted and extremely proud to accept this prestigious award and greatly value our achievement as a home.”

To be accredited, the home had to show that it met strict criteria in 20 different areas, ranging from leadership and support to dignity and respect, as well as submit a portfolio of evidence.

The Quality Hallmark awards were presented by Alan Rosenback, policy lead for the Care Quality Commission in September.
