Teenage heroes chase after robber and return pensioner's stolen purse in Taunton
A GROUP of Good Samaritan teenagers turned action heroes when a 70-year-old woman was robbed by a knife-wielding thug.
Four youths, aged 17 to 18 and a teenage girl checked the victim was alright before chasing after the culprit and returning moments later with her purse.
The grateful pensioner offered them a reward, which they turned down before cycling off.
Police are now trying to track down the five youths following the incident on the Winkworth Way footpath, in the Obridge area of Taunton, at about 4pm yesterday, Monday, November 4.
DC Scott Burton, of Taunton CID, said the culprit came up behind the woman and tried to grab her handbag.
When she resisted he threatened her with a knife and stole her purse, walking off in the opposite direction along the underpass below the railway line towards the Lyngford area.
The youths arrived on the scene and stopped to ask the distressed victim what had happened before cycling after the robber and returning a few minutes later with the purse.
One of them is described as having facial piercings.
DC Scott Burton said: “These young people were obviously being good citizens and it is vitally important that they contact us to help with our inquiries into this serious incident.”
