Burnham Food Festival organisers paint the town red
ORGANISERS behind the Burnham Food and Drink Festival have decorated some dull hoarding in the town to advertise next year’s events.
Festival founders Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds have taken to the streets over the past week to decorate the hoarding around the disused Tucker's Garage site.
Beverley said: “We wanted to brighten up that corner of the Victoria Quarter and create two community notice boards.
“We have added a large scroll, with the date of the next festival on it, and the feedback from locals has been fantastic.
“We have been asked by the home owners that face the other hoarding to paint a mural on their side too.”
Jenni Turco, executive chairman of neighbouring business Positive Wealth Creation, said: “The hoarding looks 200% better since the festival team painted it.”
Beverly and Sarah also confirmed there will once again be two festivals in 2014.
The first is timed to coincide with the late May bank holiday (May 24) and the second with the autumn half term and Hallowe’en (October 25).
Beverley said: “There was a lot of work in staging two festivals this year but the feedback has been very positive and we want to continue to support the local businesses that we have made connections with.
“The festivals will continue to grow, with new competitions added and new venues.”
Sarah added: “We love putting on the festival and the endorsements for what we are doing from the town, the traders, the council and the visitors has made up our minds that two festivals is better than one.”
The pair revealed they are in talks to bring the national heat of an international competition to Burnham for the May festival.
