Wembdon mum publishes fantasy novel
A MUM-OF-TWO from Wembdon has published her first novel - a fantasy about a 17-year-old girl who is “stubborn and impulsive, and not quite human.”
Aquila: From The Darkness is the first in a two-part series, about Aqua Vickers, a teenager living on a farm at the foot of the Quantocks, who shies away from the community to protect a mysterious secret.
The author is Tanya Searle, a former Chilton Trinity School and Bridgwater College student, who is combining a burgeoning writing career with her studies at the University of the West of England in Bristol.
Tanya said: “I love reading novels, especially the fantasy genre, and it was the hours spent working on a computer for university that gave me the opportunity to start typing my first manuscript.”
Tanya describes Aquila as a “fantasy with a romantic feel”, adding: “I wrote it in a way I thought would appeal to all ages, young adults and above.”
The setting in the Quantocks draws from her own childhood experiences.
She says she spent much of her early childhood “elbow deep in the muck of the countryside”, helping her father harvest potatoes and regularly swinging from tree branches.
Tanya, who had careers in finance and the care sector before returning to university, is working on her second novel, Aquila: Into The Light, which is due to be published in the spring next year.
She will be signing copies of Aquila: From The Darkness, in Shauls Cafe, in the Angel Place Shopping Centre, in Bridgwater, on November 16, between 10am and 4pm.
