Developers forced to pay for roads and schools under Taunton Deane Council levy
7:00pm Saturday 2nd November 2013 in News
Taunton Deane Council is to bring in a Community Infrastructure Levy, just approved by the Planning Inspectorate, to ensure that developments are sustainable and developers contribute towards major infrastructure.
The cash raised will fund infrastructure highlighted in the council’s core strategy – a blueprint for future development.
Cllr Mark Edwards, executive councillor for planning, policy and transportation, said: “The income from the CIL is important as it supports our ambitious plans for sustainable quality growth, which will require investment in infrastructure across the district.
“It will, as a result, generate millions of pounds in contributions towards this aim, and make sure infrastructure keeps up with that growth and any development helps to make a contribution.”
Developers currently pay towards infrastructure under Section 106 agreements, though in future it will be harder to pool these payments.
