Wedmore students get a taste of business
CHILDREN from Hugh Sexey Middle School near Wedmore have been enjoying a week of special events to help with success in learning, life and work.
The school hosted a series of events and visits to boost students' Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS), such as self management, relationships and performance.
“It is these skills that will enable our young people to enter work and adult life as confident and capable individuals.”
The latest project focuses on 'celebrating Somerset' and pupils have enjoyed educational trips and guest visits.
Organisations which have led workshops at the school included Cary Moor workers, RSPB, Natural England and Willow Sculpture.
Educational off-site visits included Huish Woods, a cider farm, Cheddar Cheese Company, a sweet manufacturer, Glastonbury Farmers Market, Somerset Walk, Cycling the Levels, Bridgwater YMCA and a look at Wedmore business.
The end of the week saw a 'Celebrating Somerset Craft Fair and Exhibition' where the school opened to parents and the community and children displayed the work they have been doing and sold their products.
