A POLICEWOMAN who supported the family of four-year-old Dylan Cecil has been crowned overall winner in her category of the Neighbourhood Policing Awards.

Police Community Support Officer Susan Venn-Adams was already named the district winner of PCSO of the Year after being put forward by Dylan’s grandmother, Jackie McCollum and close friend of Dylan’s family, Julie Anne Ford.

But PCSO Venn-Adams was also handed an award for overall Avon and Somerset PCSO of the Year by Burnham MP Tessa Munt at a glittering awards ceremony last week.

Dylan died after falling from Burnham’s jetty in August last year and Susan supported the family throughout the search.

Dylan’s grandmother, Mrs McCollum, said: “When Sue appeared on Monday morning she was so supportive and answered any questions we wanted to know.

“She was on duty and she just stood by our side all the way. She was even there on her day off and we could really talk to her.

“After Dylan was found, she would still pop in to make sure we were alright and we’ve become friends.

“She has set a wonderful example for other PCSOs to follow.”

Mrs Ford added: “Our little angel Dylan Cecil was taken from us. Sue was a tower of strength throughout the whole day and night and she was also with us the day he was returned.

“We believe she went way beyond the call of duty and became our shoulder to cry on and our friend when the worst was happening.”

Susan joined the Burnham Town beat team in June last year and became a friendly and familiar face in the town.

The awards are organised jointly by Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Sue Mountstevens and reward dedicated officers, staff and volunteers for their hard work in ensuring the communities of Avon and Somerset be safe and feel safe.
