B&B TV couple put Minehead on the map
A MINEHEAD B&B owner has spoken of her delight after appearing on the Channel Four show Four in a Bed.
Nina and Andrew Dobbs, who own The Old Stables B&B in Minehead, were asked to appear on the show earlier this year.
Four B&B owners from around England take turns to stay at each other’s establishments and rate their stay, paying what they think their visit was worth.
Nina and Andy were the first to host last week and ended up coming joint second.
They were up against B&B owners from Hertford, Blackpool and Yorkshire.
Nina said: “I was very keen straightaway to take part, but Andy took some convincing.
“I thought it would be really good for the business.
“I was really happy because the people we appeared on the show with were very nice.
“Some weeks people are over the top or just nasty, and it can end in a big fight at the end, so we were lucky.”
The couple, who opened The Old Stables in April, 2012, lived in Finland for 16 years previously.
Nina said: “Andy and I spent a lot of time working and wanted to do something where we could see our children more.
“Andy’s brother lives in the area and we’re glad we moved here – we get to see a lot more of the children and they love it here.”
Andy and Nina have made firm friends with some of the other contestants and have even been back to stay at one of the other B&Bs.
Nina said: “Morris and David and Erica were lovely, and we all went to surprise Morris on Friday and stay at his B&B – it was great fun.
“We played fair and we’ve had great feedback from lots of people – we’ve been stopped in the streets and had lovely comments.
“I’ve even had a handwritten fan letter which I might frame.”
Nina said she hopes that by appearing on the show people will realise Minehead has a lot to offer.
She said: “This is such a friendly, lovely part of the world and there’s more than just Butlin’s here.
“People forget about Exmoor National Park and all that’s on offer, but hopefully that will change.”
