Matt's X Factor dream lives on
DESPITE coming agonisingly close to leaving the X Factor this weekend, a Chard man is loving being involved in the popular competition.
Former Holyrood Academy student Matt Cahill, 25, is one-fifth of the group Kingsland Road, who were forced to compete in the sing-off against soloist Shelley Smith after struggling to gain enough public votes to secure an automatic place in the next round of live shows.
On the band coming last in the flash vote, their mentor, Gary Barlow, of Take That fame, said: “I’m gutted for the band. They know what they have to do.”
They certainly did what they had to with their rendition of ‘Try’ by Pink, earning them the judges’ backing and ensuring another week’s survival.
After the decision Matt tweeted: “Thankyou for all your support. Hope we did you proud! Ccommmmeeee oooonnnnnnnnn!!!!”
The band’s characteristic enthusiasm and dedication were demonstrated by them returning straight to rehearsals for the week three show just hours after the heart-stopping experience on Sunday night.
Before the weekend, Matt told the News: “To be honest,we didn’t expect to get this far. We take every day as it comes and just hope for the best – we always give it our all.
“The experience has been very intense, but we like that side of it. We love getting up at 6am and only getting home at 9pm or 10pm.
“We’ve adapted pretty well to it – it almost feels natural to us. “We like to get hands-on and rehearse as much as possible.”
Matt’s friends and family back home in Chard are willing him on to success.
He said: “Most of my mates from Holyrood were ‘laddy’ lads, so for a start they found it quite funny, but they’ve all been really supportive.
“So have my family, who have been to the live shows. My parents are just over the moon about it all.”
Matt’s mum, step-dad and step-brother, Julie, Adam and Jack Monkhouse, are rooting for him in Chard.
