It has enabled the trust to buy new medical equipment and items to make patients more comfortable; and hospital equipment allowing staff to do their job in a more efficient way.
They have also supported the hospital in its effort to make the hospital more dementia friendly for patients including buying iPads which are available for patients with dementia so they can Face Time family members.
Items they have bought include a Doppler ultrasound couch (£3,658) for the radiography department to check for artery and vein blocks, a scope guide machine for colonoscopy patients (£49,591), side rail pads for theatre trolleys (£3,067), fluid pumps (£19,500) and a curvilinear ultrasound probe (£6,000) as well as many more items.
The money the Friends distribute comes from both individual donations and legacies from local people and profit from the highly popular Friends of Yeovil Hospital shop and ward Trolley Service.
Chairman of the Friends, Anne Bennett, said: “We are very fortunate to have such a conscientious group of volunteers who work really hard to support the hospital.
"We are also pleased to see donations, legacies and the monies which we raise though our own activities being used in such a variety of ways to make a real difference to patient care.”
