King Alfred School celebrates rugby success
KING Alfred School Year Eleven pupils have been picked from a prestigious programme to Somerset Rugby at U16 level.
Harry Marks and Lewis Dodge were selected from the District Super Six program.
The boys are part of the school’s successful Year Eleven team and play club rugby for Burnham RFC U16 group.
The pair, along with eight other boys; Andrew Aldred, Ryan Beard, Charlie Criddle, Chris Marsh, Adam Norman, Ben O’Halloran, Aiden Osman and Will Potter, were chosen for the Sedgemoor Buccaneers district side where they played three games against the other Somerset districts.
Rugby coach Paul Shepherd added: “During these games, Harry and Lewis impressed the judges and have been invited to further sessions ahead of the County Championships.
“The lads will play against Cornwall, Devon, Gloucester and Bristol over the course of the next few weeks and if they impress during this phase, they stand a chance of going on to represent the South West U16 and potentially on to England.
“The eight other boys are also in with a chance of representing Somerset in a combination team that will be made up of boys from the Sedgemoor Buccaneers squad and the North Somerset Vikings squad. If selected they will run out against a Cornwall ‘B’ team in November.”
Year Ten pupil Nick Spinks has also been selected to represent the Sedgemoor Buccaneers, but at U15 level. Nick will go through the same process as the older students and could be selected to the Somerset U15 squad who play their games in the New Year.
