A FATHERS4JUSTICE campaigner accused of causing hours of delays while staging a protest dressed as Spiderman has appeared in court.

Michael Waldron, 30, of Queen's Road, Wellington, is charged with a public nuisance offence following the incident on September 24.

He appeared at Taunton Crown Court today (October 21) and did not enter a plea. Mr Waldron was remanded in custody.

Police closed the Toneway in Taunton for around three hours from 8.30am while a protester donning the superhero costume stood on the bridge above the road.

Junction 25 of the M5 was also closed in both directions.

The closures caused chaos for rush hour motorists, with many heading into Taunton having to divert through the bus gates in Blackbrook.

A spokesman for Fathers 4 Justice distanced the rights group from the protest, saying: "There are many one-man-bands and copy cat groups around the country.

"All official F4J protests and protesters are featured on our website."
