8:00pm Monday 21st October 2013 in News
A BAKERY in Williton is celebrating success at the Western Bakers Championships.
Glenmore Bakery entered the awards for the first time this year and was thrilled after three staff members won various awards for their baked goods.
Sylvia Jeromson, her son Edward and night baker Alan Reynolds all entered the awards which took place in Cullompton.
The competition, the biggest in the country, saw more than 1,000 entries all the way from St. Ives to Gloucestershire.
Sylvia said: “I am really pleased with our success and still can’t quite believe it.
“We will definitely be entering next year and trying to win even more awards."
Sylvia won first place for her scones, rock cakes, traditional apple pie and muffins and was also highly commended for her six-inch fruit pie.
Edward won third place for his vol-au-vents and turn-overs and was highly commended for his rock cakes, scones, chia bread, malted rolls and cob loaf.
Alan won first place for his malted rolls and cob loaf.
Sylvia said: “We were especially thrilled because we only started making bread about four months ago so to be winning awards for it feels wonderful.”
The family-run bakery has been going for 16 years and Sylvia, her husband, two sons and even her parent’s help run the bakeries in Williton and Minehead.
Sylvia added: “We are really enjoying it and it has become part of our social life too as we spend so much time there – we have developed good relationships with others in the trade.
“All our produce is made with a home-made approach just as mum would make it.”
