PARALYMPIAN medal winner Lucy Shuker was in Minehead on Tuesday to officially open a new carriage on the West Somerset Railway.
Foxes Academy and West Somerset Railway jointly launched a new access coach called The Golden Fox.
The carriage was officially sent on its inaugural journey by Lucy, Britain’s highest ranking ladies wheelchair tennis player, along with learners from Foxes Academy.
The academy is a training hotel and college for young people with learning disabilities, which ran the competition to name the railway’s new coach.
The Golden Fox has been specially modified to allow easy wheelchair access from the platform into the entrance of the porch and the coach itself.
Now wheelchair passengers can sit with their carers or friends and enjoy an authentic steam railway experience.
