Children devastated after break-in at The Willow Play Village
DISTRAUGHT children had to be turned away from their play centre – after it was ransacked by despicable thieves.
The intruders broke into The Willow Play Village and Willows Pre-School in Wylds Road, Bridgwater, and caused utter carnage.
They trashed two coin-operated children’s rides – just so they could get the change inside - and smashed up tills and a safe, before leaving a scene of devastation in their wake.
Police are investigating the incident, which happened overnight from October 6 into October 7.
Trev Boardman, owner of the business, was the first to discover the damage when he arrived for work on Monday morning.
He said: “I just feel violated.
“Parents were coming in and saying how sickened they were and how sad it was. We’ve had very good support from our customers.
“Although this is my business it also belongs to the community, and whoever has done this just doesn’t care about that.
“I’m absolutely sickened. Some of the parents were saying that their children were devastated that they couldn’t come in.
“We haven’t told the children exactly what’s happened, because it’s very difficult to explain it to a three-year-old.”
Both the play centre and the pre-school were closed on Monday but re-opened the next day.
Trev said crime scene investigators spent much of Monday morning at the play centre and he is waiting to discover the extent of the damage and the amount of cash taken.
He added that extra security measures have also been taken.
“We just carry on as normal,” he added.
Anybody with information about the incident should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.
