New riding group appeals for support
12:00pm Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
A COMMITTED band of people have set up a group which promises to go from strength to strength.
The Forde Abbey Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Carriage Driving Group was founded by committee members Sue Goodlet, Jenny Pennell, Marilyn Woodland and Catherine Holmes.
They have spent months sorting out insurance and gathering a group of able-bodied drivers and helpers.
Linda Sobey, who went on the first drive, said: “Having had a riding accident 15 years ago and suffering a broken neck, I have been confined to a wheelchair. I have limited use of my body and little to no feeling from my shoulders down.
“I cannot begin to explain how much pleasure I got from that drive around Forde Abbey. Out in the fresh air again, with a purpose, and beautiful grounds to drive around – what a lucky person I am.”
Catherine Holmes added: “We wish to thank Forde Abbey for providing us with this wonderful venue.
“Being a new group, we have very limited funds and would appreciate any support available.”
For more information, call Catherine on 01460-64252.
