Carnival concerts start tonight (September 30)
FAMILIES gearing up for the first round of carnival concerts tonight (Monday) can catch a sneak peak of what’s ahead with these photos taken from the dress rehearsals last night.
Colourful characters and kooky outfits will give the audience at the concerts an idea of what’s to come for the glittering parade in Bridgwater on November 2.
The concerts will run until October 12 and funds raised will be going back into the pot for the future of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival.
Acts from 13 carnival clubs and two dance troupes will be taking to the stage to perform - with additional entertainment from front of curtain acts in-between.
New faces to the front-of-curtain line up are vocalists Callum Hill, Imogen Pearce, Liam Duggan and Rebecca Morris, and folk duo Andrew’s Half-Sister.
They’ll be joined by past concerts acts comedian Dave Darling, the Best Foot Forward and Viva La Diva dance groups, and vocal group Belle Étoile.
As if performing itself wasn’t nerve-wracking enough, a panel of eight judges, all with stage production or performance experience, are set to watch each concert, awarding club and dancing troupe performances points for entertainment value, presentation of theme, choreography, costumes, make-up and scenery, among other criteria.
The results will be announced at the close of the concerts on the second Saturday performance.
The concerts period runs from September 30 until October 12 with tickets starting at £8.50 for first night seats.
Weekday performances start at 7pm, weekend performances start at 6pm at Bridgwater Town Hall.
Tickets are very limited but can be purchased from the Carnival Centre in High Street or click on bridgwatercarnival.org.uk.
