THE News-backed Somerset Business Awards 2013 are set to be biggest ever.
With nominations closed, judges have the mammoth task of going through a record 120 entries and short-listing the best businesses in each category.
Despite the difficult economic climate, the judges are incredibly impressed with the positive attitude and determination presented by each award entry.
Sue Higgins, events manager of Somerset Chamber of Commerce – organisers of the Somerset Business Awards – said: “The awards, now in their ninth year, have grown considerably since first established.
“We are delighted, yet not surprised, with the number and sheer quality of entries this year. The bar is now set very high and the judges have tough decisions about which companies to shortlist.”
The awards attracted applications from every corner of the county with more than 40 companies entering for the first time.
During the first week of October, all entrants will find out whether their applications have been short-listed and whether they will make it to the glamorous awards ceremony –set to be the largest yet, with more than 350 guests attending.
The Somerset Business Awards 2013 will be presented at the newly refurbished Westland Conference and Leisure Complex in Yeovil, on October 24.
Paul Hake, head of family business and partner at main sponsors Albert Goodman, said: “Winning is a highly impressive achievement and the celebratory evening is a key date in Somerset’s business calendar.
"The entries received this year have been outstanding and we wish all businesses that have entered the best of luck.”
