Burnham duo reach finals of South-West Chef of the Year awards
THE organisers of Burnham Food and Drink Festival have some more exciting news ahead of the return of the festival later this month.
As well as getting ready to bring a host of events for foodies back to Burnham on September 28, Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds have also reached the finals of the South-West Chef of the Year Awards in the ‘best dish’ class.
Sarah and Beverley will be among four entrants in the final of the competition, staged by Taste of the West and Michael Caines, at Ashburton Cookery School on October 19.
They will have to prepare their dish – rack of goat with frosted red currants and foraged mushrooms – to serve four people within 90 minutes.
Beverley said: “It is great to be able to celebrate the super local food in our recipe and we are excited but a bit nervous to be cooking in front of superstar chefs like Michael Caines, Mark Hix and Nathan Outlaw.
"We hope to do well and help spread the word that Somerset is home to some great food and drink producers.”
