Burnham father and son to abseil for Parkinson's UK
A FATHER and son from Burnham will take on a charity abseil in aid of Parkinson's UK.
Frank Parker, 77, and his son Andrew Parker, 45, will abseil 30 metres from a scenic hilltop at Uphill Quarry, Weston on October 6 from 9am to 4pm.
They are abseiling for Frank's wife and Andrew's mother, Sylvia Parker, who has Parkinson's.
Frank said: “Some years ago Andrew and I attempted an abseiling and canoeing challenge for beginners in the New Forest and I enjoyed the experience.
“When Andrew saw the Parkinson's UK abseil event advertised, we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to raise funds to help the charity with their research work to find a cure for Parkinson's.
“I've been training in the gym to get fit for the challenge, and I'm looking forward to being able to abseil while controlling my own descent.”
Registration for the abseil event is £12, visit www.parkinsons.org.uk/abseilsouthwest
