Taunton Christmas lights response 'brilliant', organisers say
ORGANISERS of the Christmas lights in Taunton are thrilled with the response from businesses, members of the public and the district council but say more support is needed ahead of this year’s extravaganza.
Cllr Kelly Durdan and the Taunton Town Centre Company are organising a day of activities in the town centre followed by live entertainment and the lights switch-on in the evening.
But Cllr Durdan said they are still looking for support and people to donate prizes to a raffle which is being held.
She said: “If anyone wants to hold an event and raise money for the Christmas lights fund then that would be fantastic.
“Every little bit of money we can raise towards the day and the Christmas lights will help to make itaday and night to remember.
“I know it’s a lot to ask given the tough times we are in but we are hoping people can donate big prizes like holidays, bikes, electronic equipment to help use raise the £15,000 we need to make Taunton sparkle.”
Town centre manager Graham Love added: “Thanks to the generosity of businesses and the support of the borough council, plans are well under way for the annual celebrations.
“We hope to announce details of the event, scheme of lights and our sponsors later this month.
“It’s not too late for businesses to come forward and any offers of support will be warmly received.”
There is still space to join a street fair on Sunday, November 17 – call 01823- 354299 to book.
