Bridgwater postal workers call off next week's strike
POSTAL workers in Bridgwater have called off a week of proposed strike action next week – and say their summer-long dispute with Royal Mail bosses over working conditions and “oppressive” management has ended.
At a meeting of workers last night, they voted by a 3:1 majority to end the action, which has seen nine days of strike action at the Royal Mail delivery office in Friarn Street.
David Wilshire, branch secretary with the Communication Workers Union, said: “Following lengthy and difficult negotiations an agreement has been accepted that places the union back at the centre of all decisions that are made in Royal Mail Bridgwater.
“Crucially it states that future changes will not be made until agreement is reached.
“In addition Royal Mail must realise that unless the management of the office seriously improves in the near future more disputes are inevitable.”
