Mayor marks the return of butchers shop to Rhode Lane
PEOPLE in the Rhode Lane area of Bridgwater have welcomed the return of their local butchers.
There had been a butchers shop in Rhode Lane for several decades until it closed around a year ago.
Sustainable transport charity Sustrans expressed an interest in using the empty shop as a temporary office for their Hamp regeneration work, but councillors Steve Austen and Adrian Moore felt there would be better long-term benefit in an alternative plan by experienced butcher Eugene Gainard, to reopen a butchers there, and they threw their support behind Mr Gainard’s project.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Bridgwater, Dave and Shirley Loveridge, cut the ribbon to mark the official opening of Regency Butchers.
Mr Gainard promised a “personal and friendly atmosphere”, adding: “I’d like Regency Butchers to become a valued part of the local community.”
