SOMERSET Badger Patrol will be leading a 'Candlelight Procession' in Minehead on Monday (August 26) amid rumours the badger cull is due to begin.

The government’s pilot badger culls for West Somerset and Gloucestershire are anticipated to begin from August 26, and protesters are expected to turn out in force at Wellington Square in Minehead at 8pm.

The procession follows news that an injunction, requested by the National Farmers’ Union, to restrict the actions of people protesting against the cull, has been granted.

Adrian Coward, chairman of Somerset Badger Group (SBG), said: “The result of the NFU injunction award does not in any way prevent us from holding this event and there is no unlawful aspect of the way we operate.

“We really do need to continue to make the public aware and show the NFU that our resolve has not diminished.”

The procession is expected to finish around 10pm and will be within Minehead on pavements and other level paths.
