East Huntspill artificial badger sett on BBC documentary
7:30pm Tuesday 20th August 2013 in News
AN ARTIFICIAL badger sett created at an East Huntspill animal rescue charity is being featured in a BBC television documentary.
The state of the art ‘Badgerland’ sett at Secret World Wildlife Centre will star in ‘The Burrowers’, a new programme presented by Chris Packham.
In the programme, Chris goes underground to investigate the subterranean world of some of the UK’s most iconic animals including badgers, rabbits and water voles.
As filmmakers and scientists cannot investigate animal behaviour inside wild burrows without disturbing them, the team created replica burrows.
Chris, who is a patron of Secret World, chose the centre to create an elaborate artificial sett complete with hidden cameras and filmed some of the charity’s badger residents.
Charity founder Pauline Kidner said: “The programme will give viewers a unique insight into the secretive life of the badger and how this often maligned and misunderstood creature plays such an important part of our heritage and countryside.”
The documentary starts tomorrow (Friday) at 9pm on BBC 2 for three weeks – details at www.secretworld.org
