Environment Agency officer saves tractor driver's life in Langport
7:00pm Friday 16th August 2013 in News
A MAN has saved the life of a tractor driver when he suffered a suspected heart attack at the wheel.
Environment Agency officer Dave Jennings was driving through Langport when he noticed a tractor pull over on a roundabout.
When he stopped to investigate, Dave found the driver slumped in his cab unconscious and not breathing.
He removed the casualty from the tractor and immediately started using CPR to resuscitate the man until the emergency services arrived.
Dave, who remembered the Vinnie Jones 'Staying Alive' advertisement for CPR, said: “I'm no paramedic, but I knew enough to do something.”
In a light-hearted gesture, Dave's colleagues are going to buy him a John Travolta suit in recognition of his heroic actions.
Robbie Williams, of the Environment Agency, said: “This incident is a great example of the professionalism, motivation and willingness of our staff to lend a hand - and even saves lives - while working in our local communities.
“No amount of planning could have predicted what they were going to have to deal with but thankfully their experience and training allowed them to assess each situation, manage any dangers and take control.
