Development plans go in for Highbridge Hotel site
A PROJECT has been unveiled to redevelop the Highbridge Hotel and cattle market site.
The site has lain derelict since the hotel was ravaged by fire in April 2008, but now site owner Derek Mead, of Mead Realisations, has submitted plans for a residential development of 54 houses and five flats.
The hotel itself could be converted into flats and accommodation for the YMCA.
The scheme also includes a public-use Multi-Use Games Area.
A Sedgemoor District Council spokesman: “As with all planning applications, local residents, community groups and other interested parties will have the opportunity to formally comment on the detailed development proposals during the usual 21-day formal planning consultation period. “Local views will be taken on board by the council as it decides whether or not planning approval should be granted.
"The deadline date for comments will be published on the website.
“All parties recognise that a complex and high profile project such as this will be of interest to local residents and other interested parties.
“There will be a ‘drop in session’ on Thursday, April 4, between 3pm and 7.30pm, at the Highbridge Community Hall in Market Street at which visitors will be able to find out more about what is proposed, ask questions of the developers, the land owner (Mead Realisations), officers from Sedgemoor District Council and other organisations involved in the project.
“This session will take place before the closing date for formal planning comments.
"A list of frequently asked questions will be produced to help with understanding the entire scheme.
“The drop-in session is not to consult whether certain elements are in or out as the application has been submitted as an entire scheme.
"It will be considered on its merits by the town and district planning committees. “Visitors on the day will have the opportunity to complete a form to either support or object to the scheme, together with their reasons.
"This can also be done on-line through the SDC planning pages using the reference number above.”
