DOZENS of jobs at computer security firm CA Technologies are set to leave Taunton for India, the County Gazette has learned.

One member of staff at the East Reach site said about 40 people were told in a meeting last week that the company was moving the software development to a facility in Hyderabad.

Speaking outside their offices at Nightingale House, the employee, who wished to remain anonymous, said one of the company’s senior vice-presidents travelled down to talk about plans for the coming year.

The staff member added: “It did come as an initial shock butit was nottotally unexpected.

“The company has handled it well in the difficult circumstances and I think people preferred the fact that he came down to speak to us in person.

“Forty people work here and all but two could be made redundant.

Nine employees will be retained until September.”

The employee said a 30-day consultation period started on Wednesday (March 20).

A CA Technologies spokesman said: “We can confirm we are currently in consultation with our employees in Taunton and are working with them through that process.”

The spokesman declined to comment on the number of jobs at risk or the movement of jobs.

Many of the employees, who work in the company’s security division, come from the Taunton area and produce data loss prevention software for large businesses.

The staff member said job losses could have a knock-on effect to the community.

They said: “All the staff use one of the nearby car parks, with the firm paying around £14,000 for parking permits.

“We also have weekly staff lunches at one of the local restaurants, so the local community will be affected too.”
