Rescued cat Fireman Sam with veterinary nurse Sam Templeman
AN URGENT appeal has gone out to find the owner of a large ginger and white tom cat rescued last week after climbing into the engine of a parked car in Chard.
The cat was injured by a passing motorist in Furnham Road, not far from the Kingfisher Veterinary Practice in Glynswood, last Tuesday afternoon.
The driver stopped to see how badly hurt it was before going to the vets to ask for help.
Despite its injuries, the cat climbed inside the engine of a parked car where it became trapped for several hours, despite efforts to free him.
He was finally released with the help of firefighters from Chard and Yeovil who used equipment to lift the vehicle and release the cat from underneath.
A spokesman for Kingfisher Veterinary Practice said: “The cat, who we have temporarily named Fireman Sam, is currently being cared for at our Chard practice, although we are urgently appealing for his owners to contact us.
“Fireman Sam is a large ginger male with some white on his body. He was wearing two collars when he was rescued – so we suspect he is owned, lives nearby and has owners who will be missing him.”
The spokesman added: “We would like to thank the fire crews from Chard and Yeovil for helping to release the cat and the RSPCA for providing funding for the emergency veterinary treatment Fireman Sam has required.”
