UPDATE: A39 near Bridgwater reopens after serious collision
THE air ambulance, fire crews, ambulances and police were called to the scene of a serious collision on the A39 in Bridgwater this afternoon (Wednesday).
The incident, involving a blue VW Golf and a blue Citreon Saxo, occured at the junction with Skimmerton Lane shortly after 1pm.
Trevor Thomas, who owns Greenway petrol station directly opposite where the collision happened, said he was first alerted to the accident when his wife heard the crash inside the shop.
The former member of the Wessex Voluntary Ambulance said he donned a hi-visability jacket to direct traffic around the scene while fire crews worked to free passengers trapped in the Saxo, thought to be in their teens.
The air ambulance was eventually not used and three casualities were transfered to Musgrove park Hospital in Taunton with head injuries, with a fourth taken to Bridgwater Hospital.
Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing. No-one in the Golf was thought to have been injured in the incident.
The road was reopened at approximately 3pm although delays were expected while emergency crews recover the vehicles.
