THE man who died following a two-vehicle collision in Church Street, Highbridge, last night (March 17) has been named by police.

Patrick Barr, 46, died at the scene after his Honda Civic collided with a Volvo V70 around 8.20pm, near Hope Baptist Church.

A police spokesman said: “The man who died following the road traffic collision in Highbridge yesterday has been named as Patrick Barr - known to his friends as 'Paddy.' Mr Barr lived locally.

“Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800-555111.”

Police closed Church Street for a few hours following the incident.

Emily, who witnessed the collision, told the Weekly News: “I was sitting in the window watching the world go by, and then it happened.

“I called the emergency services and they were on the scene pretty fast. There were about two fire engines, an ambulance and two police vans.

“The fire crew especially were really good and did all they could.”

Mike Hains, who lives near the scene, added: “We heard sirens last night but didn’t think it was for something so close by. It’s such a shame someone has lost their life.

“There was an accident a while ago where a couple of cars collided at the junction but on the whole this road is usually fairly safe.”
