THE Brewhouse has ironically scooped a prestigious Employer of the Year award – just weeks after going out of business.

The theatre received the award at an presentation evening in Exeter on Tuesday for its work with apprentices Jamie Ransom and Sam Jones.

Their boss at The Brewhouse, former technical director Amy Spencer, said: “I’m really happy and proud of them but, atthe same time,I’m gutted over what’s happened.

Amy added she was saddened to read comments from critics who said the centre was overstaffed.

She said: “It’s just nottrue – and apprenticeships are an amazing thing.

“It’s also a shame that allthe people who are now trying to save the Brewhouse couldn’t have helped save it before this happened.”
