Council clarifies East Brent's status Council clarifies East Brent's status

SEDGEMOOR District Council has agreed a move to give East Brent greater standing.

In its Core Strategy, the council had designated the village as “countryside”, where development was to be strictly controlled.

The status led to concern from the parish council about a perceived “diminished role for the village”, and caused Environment Agency flood maps to downgrade its flood risk.

At its latest executive meeting, the district council agreed to identify East Brent and Rooksbridge as an “other sustainable settlement” with individual boundaries.
