New management at the Wellesley in Wellington
11:00am Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News
The Wellesley on Mantle Street.
THE owners of the Wellesley cinema and theatre in Wellington have told audiences live shows will continue despite a change of management.
The venue is now under the control of S&K Entertainment, which has taken over from Reel Cinemas with the Wellington Arts Association still owning the building.
Confusion surrounds two Mykris Promotions shows due to be staged at the Wellesley – the ABBA tribute on April 26 and an Ultimate 80s tribute on May 24 – following the takeover.
The shows’ promoter, Mike Neal, is quoted as saying he has had to pull the plug on the productions after failing to reach an agreement with the new leaseholders.
The County Gazette has been unable to contact Mr Neal or S&K, but WAA chairman Geoff Redstone said: “We have a permanent agreement that will ensure the production of live shows.
“From our point of view nothing’s going to change. Provisions are in place to ensure that live shows go ahead, and we’are pleased to have the new lessees on board and look forward to working with them.”
Wellington Operatic Society’s production of Oliver! from May 7 will go ahead as planned, and next year’s pantomime will also showcase at the Wellesley, Mr Redstone confirmed.
Anybody with tickets for the Mykris Promotions shows should call the Wellesley box office on 01823-666668.
