VILLAGERS in Puriton will soon be able to take a stroll and learn some history in a new heritage walk.

Puriton Parish Council has received support for the project from Somerset County Councillor Mark Healey’s Health and Wellbeing Fund.

The parish council wanted to create a village health and wellbeing project and is celebrating after its application was successful.

Parish Clerk Bruce Poole told the Mercury: “It's designed for anyone of any ability to use.

“They can take a leisurely walk around the village and exercise while learning some interesting information.”

The funding will pay for a supply of park benches, legend boards and path markers. Further details will be decided by a Parish Council Open Spaces Working Party.

Cllr Healey, county councillor for Huntspill division (pictured), said: “I have secured £10,000 health and wellbeing funding for the Huntspill Division.

“This is an initiative to promote health through walking for all ages within our community, as well as those visiting.

“It is designed to have an educational backdrop to it in relation to knowing your area – it’s flora and fauna as well as it’s wildlife.”
