Police use 'Cassie's Law' to revoke licence
DRIVERS who do not wear glasses or contact lenses when they should could have their licence taken away under new powers.
Last week, a driver had his licence taken away after being stopped by Avon and Somerset Police under the power known as ‘Cassie’s Law’.
Chief Inspector John Holt said: “Previously, we would have had to write to or fax the DVLA to request the removal of a licence.
"Now, we can just telephone or email and take a potentially dangerous driver off the roads in a few minutes.”
The death of a Colchester 16-year-old, Cassie McCord, led to a campaign for changes at the DVLA after an elderly driver was not taken off the road despite failing an eyesight test.
