Rosewood Green public park to open next week (March 21)
A LONG-awaited public park will open in Burnham next week as part of a £350,000 project to convert a former landfill site.
The park at the Rosewood Green site, to the north of Wallace Wells Road, will be officially opened by Cllr Gill Slocombe, chairman of Sedgemoor District Council, at 10.30am on Thursday, March 21.
The park was completed last October, but has suffered setbacks due to the extremely wet autumn and winter weather.
The ground conditions on the turfed play area had been waterlogged and any heavy use would have damage the grass before it had had time to establish.
A district council spokesman said: “The site has been inspected on a regular basis to assess the condition of grass and it is only now that it is dry enough for use. “Sedgemoor District Council has invested £350,000, from Section 106 monies received from developers, in this project.”
The project saw the instillation of a network of tarmac footpath and cycleway links, the planting of a wild flower meadow, instillation of a children’s play area, seating and litter bins.
Parks and open spaces policy officer Harley Cook said: “This is a substantial area of a public open project and has a potential for a Friends Group in future.
“It will hopefully get people out into fresh air and has a social element too.”
